“Getting Started”

An introductory workshop to Dr. Weston A. Price and the book “Nourishing Traditions”. This highly recommended class presents 4 different pathways to guide folks in eating a nutrient-dense, real food diet. Offering practical advice and an overview of the foundational principles, this workshop will support you as you take those first action steps towards a healthier way of eating.
Fee: $20

“Alternatives to Sugar”

The increased consumption of refined sugar is directly related to the increase of various disease conditions in school children. However, the moderate use of natural sweeteners, high in vitamins and minerals, such as raw honey, date sugar, Rapadura (dehydrated cane sugar juice) and maple syrup will satisfy even the sweetest tooth without compromising health. Pamela Belle will share recipes and information on how to transition from commercial, refined sweeteners towards healthier alternatives.

The Ann Arbor chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation will be offering the class “Children and Healthy Fats” on Sunday, October 25 from 1:00-3:30pm. This class will be held at the Ann Arbor Center for Natural Healing, 2433 Oak Valley Drive, Suite 100B. This class will be taught by Frances Farmer.

Fat and cholesterol provide critical nourishment for growth and brain development in children. Learn how to feed children using nutrient-dense foods to build brilliant, strong, energetic, healthy bodies and minds. Please join us on Wednesday, October 21, for a WAPF chapter gathering! The topic will be sourdough bread! We will be discussing the health benefits of sourdough breads, and John Savanna, master baker from Mill Pond Bread in Chelsea, will be on hand to discuss how he makes his delicious breads and the secret to making successful sourdough breads at home. We will also discuss other uses of the sourdough starter, such as muffins and waffles.

Price Foundation will be hosting the Growing Connections Organic Harvest Festival and Conference on September 12, 2009, at Kensington Metro Park Farm Center in Milford. The event runs from 9am to 6pm and features a large farmers market as well as lectures on these topics:

Please join us for an end-of-summer harvest celebration and picnic on Wednesday, September 16, at 6:30pm at the Ann Arbor Center for Natural Healing, 2433 Oak Valley Drive, Suite 100B!

We’ll be grilling up some tasty sausages from local, pasture-based farms ($1.50 each) with yummy lacto-fermented condiments. Bring your favorite summery dish to pass.

This event will be a great opportunity to bring friends and neighbors who may be interested in learning more about the WAPF.

We’ll also be doing a new member drive! Sign up for a WAPF annual membership ($40, check written to “Weston A. Price Foundation”) and choose a free book! Our WAPF memberships help to support the educational mission of the Foundation and their commitment to doing independent nutrition research. Membership includes the excellent quarterly journal, “Wise Traditions”, as well as important action alerts and communications from the Foundation.

The Ann Arbor Chapter of the Weston A Price Foundation is pleased to announce a series of workshops for 2009, developed to assist families in preparing healthy meals based on the best selling cookbook “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon.

Our second workshop, Making the Transition, will assist the family cook in purging the kitchen of six ingredients that compromise health. Ideas will be presented for maximizing the productivity and efficiency of meal preparation through organizing the kitchen, menu planning and grocery shopping, and time-saving meal prep methods.

The workshop will be Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm in Ann Arbor (please arrive 15 minutes early to register and settle in…thank you).

Workshop offered by Rene Garrity. Rene has been transforming her health with the traditional food principles of WAPF for over 5 years and is a member of the Weston A Price Foundation and the Price-Pottenger Foundation; she was AAWAPF Chapter Leader 2006-2007.
